Blog / NEET UG 2024 Answer Key: How to calculate your score from NTA official answer key
National Testing Agency (NTA) will shortly release the official answer keys of NEET UG exam. Along with answer keys, NTA will also release the recorded responses along with scanned image of OMR filled by student.
This release of official answer keys and scanned OMR will be followed by provision to challenge the published answer keys and recorded responses. The student can challenge after paying the prescribed fees on NTA website. You can get details by visiting https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET
Many students find it difficult to understand the right way to calculate their NEET UG marks from recorded responses and official answer keys. This article will explain the correct way to map the answers and calculate the NEET UG marks of the student.
The NTA answer keys and scanned OMR will be published on NTA student account login and may also be available on registered e-mail address of the student. The darkened circles on OMR will also be published as recorded responses.
Student will get 2-3 days window period to challenge the published answer keys and recorded responses. NTA will not accept any challenge after end of published timelines.
The student must save the answer key, recorded responses and scanned OMR on their computer system in image and pdf format. This is necessary to contest any mistake in the NEET UG score card.
It may be tricky to map the answers with recorded responses. The best way to map the scores will be by copy-pasting the answer keys and recorded answers on a excel sheet. You can paste answer key responses in one column and recorded answers in next column.
Use Microsoft Excel sheet to map NTA answer keys with Recorded Responses. This will minimize risk of miscalculation.
This will make it easy for students and parents to calculate the NEET UG marks using the excel sheet. The students must check whether the recorded answers are mapped well with the darkened circles on scanned OMR.
Before we discuss how to calculate the NEET UG marks using answer key and recorded responses, it is important to know that each subject in NEET UG had 2 sections: Section A and B. There were 35 all compulsory questions in Section A.
In Section B, there were 15 questions and a student was expected to attempt only 10 out of them. Many students try to attempt more than 10 questions with a thinking that section B will be calculated on "The Best of 10".
"In the event if a candidate has attempted more than 10 questions, only the first 10 attempted questions will be considered for evaluation."
NTA NEET UG prospectus Page no. 15
NTA NEET UG prospectus clearly states that in section B, computer will record only top 10 answers and not the best 10 answers. So if a student has answered more than 10 questions, the computer will only record top 10 responses.
Student or parents must first evaluate the first 35 questions from each subject section A. Since there was no choice in Section A, student can easily calculate the number of right and wrong answers.
Student must give themselves 4 marks for each correct answer and deduct 1 mark for each wrong answer. This way they can easily calculate their total section A score. Please note that there is NO penalty for unattempted questions.
In Section B, if your 2 answers are wrong in top 10 and even if 2 answers are right for 11th or 12th question, they will not be added to your marks.
For section B, student must check only top 10 recorded answers. They can award the marks for right and wrong according to Section A calculation. They should calculate marks only for Top 10 and not the best 10 answers.
